Citrine is a member of the quartz family. The yellowish orange color gives the stone its golden hue; it will be sure to brighten your day when you look at it. One’s sense of self becomes more radiant with a citrine and helps to look forward to the future optimistically, going with the flow, instead of hanging on to the past. It carries the virtues of self-healing, inspiration, and self-improvement. Carrying the power of the sun, it is excellent for overcoming depression, fears, and phobias. Citrine energizes every level of your life and is a powerful attractor of helpful friends and mentors. It has the power to bring joy to all who behold it while instilling a positive attitude. It is said that the stone will draw all the good things in life to you. This special quartz supports generosity, yet at the same time, helps you hold onto your wealth.
– Citrine is attributed with two divine deities: Demeter, the Greek goddess of harvest who is associated with productivity and Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war who is associated with power.
– The name citrine comes from the old French word “citrin,” which means lemon.
– According to ancient Chinese legend, citrine is “The Stone of Success,” and should be given to generous people only. Chinese emperors would often wear citrine jewelry because they believed it would increase intellectual capabilities and broaden the mind.
– In ancient times, citrine was worn as protection against snake venom and bad thoughts.
Citrine is a yellow variety of quartz. It is a semi-precious stone and typically has an attractive luster and excellent clarity. Its pale yellow coloration is actually rarely found in nature. Citrine radiates positive energy and is considered as a good luck charm. In comparison, citrine is less expensive than topaz, and topaz is a brilliant and lustrous semi-precious gemstone that is suitable for most types of jewelry. Not to confuse yellow topaz with citrine, in the most basic, non-gemological terms, citrine is a quartz, and topaz is a completely different mineral with a separate chemical structure. In chemical terms, the topaz is considerably harder and heavier than citrine, and it has a higher refractive index, which gives topaz more “fire”. To define “fire” means that the gem has the ability to split light into the colors of the spectrum. Think about when you’re holding a gem, and you move it back and forth to see the sparkle, does it contain different colors? If yes, that means it has “fire”, and also means you are looking at a topaz, not a citrine.
