The Start of Summer

June is the start of summer, which means sunny weather, days at the beach, and all things fun! Fittingly, June’s birthstone is Pearl – found under the sun, deep in the sea.

In many ancient societies, pearls symbolized the moon and were associated with magical properties. They are believed to attract wealth and luck as well as offer protection. Known for their calming effect, pearls can balance one’s karma, help strengthen relationships, and keep the wearer safe. The pearl is also said to symbolize purity, generosity, integrity, loyalty, and beauty. Pearls are often associated with new beginnings and are therefore popular among brides.

Some fun facts about pearls:

-Freshwater pearls make up approximately 95% of total global pearl production, but are much less valuable than saltwater pearls. A single freshwater mussel will typically produce between 30 and 50 pearls at a time.
-Pearl oysters are also used for their shell (known as mother-of-pearl) as well as their meat.
-The earliest record of viewing pearls as precious objects are artifacts from Mesopotamia dated to around 2300 B.C.
-Pearls are often destroyed because people don’t take care of them properly. If you’re looking for a safe cleaning solution for your pearls, check out Lavish, available in-store for $15.00 + tax.
